Important points on:The Virtues of the Last 10 Nights of RamadhanWhy did the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم strive and work hard during the last 10 days??The main reason is because Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has legislated the Lailat-ul Qadr during one of these nights. He صلى الله عليه و سلم used to search for this night. Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says in surah al-Qadr: (Ibn Kathir) “We have sent it [the Qur’an] down on the Night of Al-Qadr. And how will you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is? The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months, In it the angels and the Spirit come down by their Lord’s leave, with all His decrees. Peace it is, until the rising of the dawn.” ~ (Surah Al-Qadr, the 97th Chapter of the Noble Qur’aan) This night is better than a 1000 months (equal to more than 83 years). None can guarantee that they would live this long. It is indeed out of His Mercy, Favour and Wisdom He سبحانه و تعالى has legislated this Night every year in the Ramadhan especially in the last 10 nights. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم has ordered us to look for this night (had it of Aysha رضي الله عنها/ Bukhari & Muslim). In the hadith of ibn Umar رضي الله عنه the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said: ‘Look for it in the last 7 nights.’ — It means whatever good you do on this particular night, the reward is multiplied for 1000 months (more than 83 years… subhanaAllaah!!). ✨ Indeed this is a Great Reward!! Who would understand the value of this blessed and rewarding Night??? Many are unaware of the benefit of this one night!! Only those who strive and search for this night with the aid of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى will reap the magnanimous reward of worshipping Allaah for more than 83 years. Another hadith recorded in Bukhari & Muslim: ‘Look for it in the odd nights of the last 10 nights.’ Why did he صلى الله عليه و سلم encourage us to search for this night???It is because it is better than a 1000 months. Why is it called Lailat-ul-Qadr?It is due to the statement of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى in Surah Dukhan (Smoke): Allaah سبحانه و تعالى tells us that He revealed the Magnificent Qur’an on a blessed night, Laylatul-Qadr (the Night of Decree), as He says elsewhere: ﴿إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَـهُ فِى لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ ﴾ (Verily, We have sent it down in the Night of Al-Qadr) (97:1). This was in the month of Ramadan, as Allaah tells us: ﴿شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِى أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ﴾ (The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan) (2:185). We have already quoted the relevant Hadiths in (the Tafsir of) Surat Al-Baqarah, ﴿إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ﴾ (Verily, We are ever warning.) means, telling them what is good for them and what is harmful for them, according to Shariah, so that the proof of Allaah may be established against His servants. ﴿فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ ﴾ (Therein (that night) is decreed every matter, Hakim.) means, on Laylatul-Qadr, the decrees are transferred from Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz to the (angelic) scribes who write down the decrees of the (coming) year including life span, provision, and what will happen until the end of the year. This was narrated from Ibn Umar, Mujahid, Abu Malik, Ad-Dahhak and others among the Salaf. ~ ibn Kathir What should one do during these nights is clearly stated in the guidance of Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم where he said: ‘Whoever stands on the night of Qadr (- meaning offering prayer), out of sincere faith and hoping to obtain Allah reward, his previous sins will be forgiven for him.’ This is a great reward indeed for the one who stands in prayer to Allaah سبحانه و تعالى this night. Therefore, it is befitting for us as believers that we search for this night during every night of the last 10 days, standing in prayer — invoking Him سبحانه و تعالى and do as much Ibaadah as we can. It is narrated from the hadith of Aysha رضي الله عنها that she asked the Prophet of Allaah صلى الله عليه و سلم: “O Messenger of Allah, what is your view if I know when the Night of Al-Qadr is, then what should I say in it?” He said: ‘Say: “O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, [Generous,] You love pardon, so pardon me (Allahumma Innaka Afuwun [Karimun], Tuhibbul-Afwa Fa’fu Anni.).'” (Sahih) |
